ARTIST STATEMENT

My sculptures and Public works express our needs and curiosity through invented forms that echo ancient temples, altars and observatories and are also influenced by our contemporary world.

Every sculpture is a process of discovery with layered meanings; they start with ideas that may morph into other visions numerous times, often resulting in a new image referring to the original idea. The image of my hand appears in many of my works as both a signature and a symbol of man’s curiosity and presence.

I have cast and welded sculptures in metal for more than 30 years. My education includes BFA and MFA degrees in sculpture, and travel over most of our planet. My sculptures have have been in more than 200 exhibitions in the U.S., Europe, Africa and Asia. I am the recipient of a Fulbright Grant and a National Endowment for the Arts Award, among other awards.
