My works are an exploration of architectural forms that are both imaginary and possible. The sculpture and drawings explore structure, place and event as vehicles expressing human longings and curiosity through symbolic forms such as temples, altars and observatories. Our curiosity about our environment is driven by other forces than ancient fears and gods, but we do seem compelled to make and use formal places as a focus for our questions and myths.
These inventions are influenced by both modern and ancient works; they are imagined places. They are executed using traditional materials such as bronze as well as contemporary media in the form of plasma cut and heli-arc welded aluminum and computer simulation, while retaining the accidents that an artist leaves as evidence of his hand at work.
The hand symbol might mean greeting or strength; it gives us a special place in the world extending us into time and space. The geometric forms represent thought processes. Some works allude to mysterious events, others point to the fragile place we have in the universe, bridging time and ideas with a mixture of ancient and new materials and forms.
