Betty McGeehan
In 2003, I visited Dessau Germany, the home of the Bauhaus movement. I was very inspired by the colors and geometric forms. there was a visual resolution and clarity. I found them esthetically pleasing. Upon my return home, I experimented in several mediums. Constructing wall sculptures with wood gave me the feeling I wanted. these works are made up of geometric forms and arcs, and have great depth so that shadows become a very important factor. Several of the sculptures are characterized by sweeping gestural lines or “drawings in space.” The pieces are a range of sizes. they are not the result of a pre-planned compositional framework, but evolve as each newly added piece interacts with those already in the composition. I value the sense of craft, not showing how the work was put together. I have a specific process, and the design is purely intuitive.
